Simple ingredients for life and career success

‘All you need is a degree in application, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and you will dominate.’

This is what I heard from the hiring manager of the company that I have just accepted a position with. And once I heard it, I wrote it down instantly. Because it defined and explained what I believed in, which was validated by a national manager who works for one of the biggest insurance and risk management firms in the world.

So, what can high school students, university students, early career professionals and tradesmen and women learn from this? I don’t know really if I am being honest, but I do know what I believe they can take away if they looked hard enough.

Away from your education, what else can set you apart in the world? And if anybody says their good looks, I will throw one of my books directly at your head 😊 but seriously, have a think.

If 100 business students or builders graduate from higher education in 2021. Having studied the same course, attended the same classes and averaged a B+ across all their subjects. Who stands out?

Again, not the physically better-looking one’s, it’s the ones who show an unrivalled enthusiasm towards their studies and future/current careers, the one’s who show a willingness to learn and those who have applied themselves through volunteering, internships/apprenticeships and networking.

It really does not take much to succeed in your chosen field.
